What Are Baked Dumplings

Baked dumplings are handmade or premade dumplings (pork or chicken and veggie) added to a baking dish with a creamy, brothy sauce full of flavor and bake until tender and bubbly. The dumplings cook up perfectly in the shallow liquid which thickens as it bakes.

Other ingredients like fresh vegetables, jarred sauces, or hot sauce can be added in to add texture and flavor. Opposed to boiling or pan frying dumplings this version creates more of a ‘ravioli’ texture that pairs great with the cooking liquid/sauce.

Key Ingredients

Top-down view of labeled ingredients for marry me baked dumplings including dumplings, cream, parmesan, and sun-dried tomatoes.
  • Frozen dumplings: look for pork/chicken and vegetable dumplings or potstickers. They have a mild taste. You can find large ones or bite-sized, either will work. Keep them frozen
  • Sun dried tomatoes: these are usually found packed in oil but can also be found dry packaged. I like to look for pre-sliced tomatoes, that are either chopped or julienned so I can add them directly to the pan. Drain as much of the oil out as you can, this can be save for salad dressings and marinades!
  • Basil: fresh basil is a must! Add in as much as you prefer, I add whole leaves and they wilt down slightly, you can also add chopped basil.
  • Broth: chicken broth, vegetable broth, or beef broth will work. This helps thin out the cream sauce and give the dumplings extra liquid to cook in. In a pinch: substitute water.
  • Cream: heavy whipping cream is preferred, half and half can be used if needed. Milk wont create as rich of a sauce.
  • Cheese: shredded parmesan or asiago are best. Shred your own cheese if possible!
