What could be better on a chilly winter weekend than a quick and easy seasonal cocktail. This Cinnamon & Pear Ginn Fizz makes the perfect night cap after a long day. In season Bartlett pears make the perfect simple syrup with hints of cinnamon and vanilla. Mix that with you favorite gin and a little soda water, and that is it!

I love making infused simple syrups to use in cocktails or teas. The best part, you can make this cinnamon & pear simple syrup and keep it in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. You thinking what I’m thinking? That means the perfect night cap can be made any night – because you deserve it!

I think the pears work really well in this recipe because they have a subtly sweetness and aren’t overpowering. But you could also substitute a number of other seasonal, pomegranate would be delicious, you could do an apple spice simple syrup, or switch it up a little and use persimmons which are at peak season during the winter months. While the options are endless – this pear and cinnamon gin fizz is the perfect place to start!

For the Cinnamon Pear Simple Syrup

In a medium saucepan, combine the water, sugar, chopped pears, vanilla, and cinnamon sticks.

Heat over medium heat for 5-10 minutes until sugar has dissolved completely. Once the sugar has dissolved, reduced the heat to low and allow to simmer for 25-30 minutes. The pears will start to break down and the cinnamon should become fragrant.

Remove from the heat and allow to cool for 10-15 minutes. Strain the syrup through a fine mesh sieve. Discard the pear and cinnamon and pour the cinnamon and pear syrup into an airtight container and set aside.

For the Cocktail:

In a cocktail glass of choice, combine the gin and the cinnamon pear simple syrup, stir to combine. Top of with the soda water and ice cubes. Garnish with pear slices, cinnamon sticks, or a cinnamon sugar rim if desire. Enjoy immediately!

Cinnamon Pear simple syrup will keep in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two weeks! It can be used in a variety of different cocktails, in tea or coffee, even mixed into lemonade!

Ingredients

For the Cinnamon Pear Simple Syrup:

  • 1 1/2 cups Water
  • 1 1/2 cups Bartlett Pears, roughly chopped, about 2-3 large pears
  • 3/4 cup Sugar
  • 3-4 Whole Cinnamon sticks
  • 1 tbsp Vanilla Extract

For the Gin Fizz:

  • 1.5 oz Gin
  • 3 tbsp Cinnamon Pear Simple Syrup
  • 3/4 cup Soda water, any plain seltzer will work
  • Ice
  • Fresh pear slices, cinnamon sticks or ground cinnamon for garnish, optional!
