Tools I used for this mocktail recipe:
- Rubber Spatula – a must have! Easily combine the pineapple mixture with a rubber spatula. I like these because they don’t come apart so I don’t have to worry about water getting inside the spatula and causing mold.
- 72 oz. Blender – this is my favorite blender, I have had it for a couple years and it still preforms great. Not only is it affordable but the large, 72 oz. pitcher is great for large batches!
How to make the Easy Virgin Pina Colada Mocktail Recipe (with step by step instructions):
Let’s talk a little about how to make this mocktail (The printable instructions are in the recipe card below.)
Quick Overview:
- Prep all ingredients
- Add everything to a blender and blend until smooth
- Serve immediately with garnishments!
1: Prep pineapple if using fresh, juice and zest limes, prepare garnishes. Stir coconut cream before using so it is evenly combined.
2: Add all ingredients to a blender, blend until smooth, 45-60 seconds (add more liquid as needed until desired consistency is reached).
3. Pour into glasses, garnish with a fresh pineapple wedge, fresh lime wedges or lime zest and a pineapple leaf. Enjoy immediately!
Ingredient List & Ingredient Notes:
- Pineapple: fresh or frozen chunks of pineapple can be used here or a mixture of both.
- Coconut cream: this adds the perfect rich and creamy texture, using coconut milk will not result in the same consistency but can be used in a pinch.
- Milk: any kind of milk can be used such as whole milk, unsweetened coconut milk, almond milk, or for more coconut flavor, use coconut water. The creaminess is coming from the coconut cream, this is just liquid to thin out the mixture.
- Lime juice: fresh lime juice is much better than bottled for this recipe, add as much or as little lime as desired.
- Lime zest: fresh lime zest is a must, it adds nice specs to the mixture and extra lime flavor. Can be omitted but if fresh lime juice is used – you might as well use fresh lime zest!

Recipe FAQs:
What is a pina colada?
The traditional pina Colada is made with rum, cream of coconut, and pineapple juice, served either blended or shaken. Often garnished with a pineapple wedge or maraschino cherry. This refreshing drink originated in Puerto Rico and is the national drink of Puerto Rico.
What is coconut cream and do I need it?
Coconut cream is the same thing as coconut milk – coconut meat blended with water – just containing less water. While coconut milk is thin like cow’s milk, coconut cream is much thicker. You can find this fat-rich cream floating on the top of any canned coconut milk, or you can buy it in a dedicated can. For the recipe, a can of coconut cream is key for the smooth, creamy texture. It helps to thicken the blended pina colada.
What’s the difference between a classic pina colada and this virgin version?
Classic pina coladas use cream of coconut, and fresh pineapple juice. Cream of coconut is a sweetened version of coconut cream. This virgin pina colada uses real pineapple (fresh or frozen), coconut cream, lime juice, and milk or coconut water. Add white rum or dark rum to make this a version with alcohol.
What are fun garnish ideas?
Classic pina coladas are garnished with pineapple slices and maraschino cherries. Some other fun ideas are mint springs, pineapple leaves (cleaned and cut), drink umbrellas, lime wedges, lime zest, paper straws, a sugared rim, or a skewer.
