What are Spinach and Artichoke Dip Sliders?
These will be a crowd favorite at your next game day gathering or back yard party! The homemade spinach dip is a must and it so good on its own. But sandwiched between soft, slightly sweet Hawaiian rolls and baked until gooey and golden brown instantly elevates the classic dip.
The seasoned garlic butter topping is crucial (and so good). Sizzling melted butter is combined with fresh garlic and loads of spices (like red pepper flakes, onion powder, and Italian seasoning). Slathered over the tops of the rolls so each bite is loaded with delicious garlic butter!
Key Ingredients
These sandwich sliders are made with simple ingredients, many you probably already have on hand. If there is a substitution for an ingredient, you’ll find it below:
- Seasoning: kosher salt, fresh cracked black pepper, red pepper flakes, Italian seasoning, onion powder, and garlic powder all add extra flavor to this dish. Other seasonings like mined onion, paprika, or cayenne pepper also work.
- Garlic: add as many fresh garlic cloves as desired, I use upwards of around 5 or 6 large cloves. Jarred minced garlic can be used as well.
- Cheese: this recipe uses a mixture of shredded mozzarella and shredded parmesan cheese. You could swap out other types of shredded cheese like pepper jack cheese or shredded gruyere.
- Cream cheese: full fat cream cheese works best but low-fat can be used if desired. Make sure to softened your cream cheese first.
- Sour cream dip: I use AE Dairy’s garlic sour cream dip, any flavor sour cream dip will work or use plain sour cream.
- Butter: unsalted butter is preferred. Ghee, olive oil, or avocado oil may also be used.
- Spinach: frozen chopped spinach is the best option for this recipe. Make sure you thaw and remove moisture from the spinach before adding it into the dip. Fresh spinach doesn’t work the same.
- Artichokes: jarred marinated artichokes add the best flavor and texture but canned artichokes can also be used, make sure the give them a good chop first.
- Dinner rolls: sweet Hawaiian rolls are preferred but this recipe will work with any slider bun or dinner roll.
How To Make The Spinach Dip Slider Sandwiches
Let’s talk a little about how to make Garlicky Spinach and Artichoke Dip Pull Apart Sliders (The printable instructions are in the recipe card below.)
Quick overview:
- Prepare spinach artichoke dip. Split buns in half.
- Layer spinach dip on bottom half of buns and top with cheese and the top half of buns.
- Prepare the melted butter mixture and drizzle over the sliders.
- Cover and bake until gooey. Enjoy!
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F, grease a baking dish and set aside. Slice the Hawaiian rolls in half lengthwise. Place the bottom half of the rolls in the baking dish.
- In a small mixing bowl combine the minced garlic, red pepper flakes, garlic powder, kosher salt, black pepper, Italian seasoning, and onion powder.
- In a large mixing bowl combine spinach, chopped artichokes, half of the mozzarella, parmesan, sour cream dip, parmesan cheese, cream cheese, and half of the garlic seasoning mixture from above. Mix to combine.
- Spread the spinach artichoke dip over the bottom half of the rolls. Sprinkle with the remaining mozzarella cheese and top with the top of the buns.
5. Add the melted butter to the bowl with the remaining garlic seasoning blend, stir to combine. Pour evenly over the top of the rolls. Cover with aluminum foil and bake at 350 for 18-20 minutes or until gooey.
Recipe Notes:
- Jarred marinated artichokes add extra flavor but canned artichokes can be a substitute.
- Make sure to thaw and squeeze out any extra moisture in the spinach, you can do this using a clean dish towel. You want to remove as much liquid from the spinach as possible so it doesn’t make the sliders soggy while baking.
- Any flavor of sour cream dip can be used or substitute plain sour cream.
Tools I Recommend Using
- Box Grater – I use this all the time to shred my own cheeses, shred veggies, or fruit. Shredding your own cheese makes all the difference as you don’t have to deal with the anti-caking ingredients they add to packaged shredded cheese.
- Rectangular Baking Dish – the perfect size dish for the sweet rolls! I have a couple casserole dishes on hand in different sizes and shapes for a fun table spread. You never know when you will need more than one pan, this set has three different sizes.
- Nested Glass Mixing Bowl Set – I use these for everything! The different sizes are great for portioning out ingredients before you start cooking. Anchor Hocking and Pyrex are my two go-to’s for glass mixing bowls.

Storage & Reheating
These sliders can easily be stored and reheated for leftovers. Allow to cool completely and store in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days.
To reheat, warm desired number of sliders in a small oven safe dish in a 300 degrees F oven or in the microwave until warmed through.
Recipe FAQs
Yes! Assemble the sliders as the recipes suggests, cover them tightly with aluminum foil or plastic wrap, and refrigerate for up to 24 hours before baking. Add the butter topping just before baking, not ahead of time.
Hawaiian sweet rolls are the most popular choice due to their soft and slightly sweet flavor, but any pull-apart slider buns or dinner roll will work.
A mix of cream cheese, mozzarella, and Parmesan works best for creaminess and salty flavor. You can also add in shredded Monterey Jack, gruyere, or cheddar as a substitute.
Ring out the frozen chopped spinach after it has thawed in a kitchen towel or cheesecloth to remove the excess moisture. Spinach contains a lot of liquid that if not properly removed can make the buns soggy on the bottom.
Yes! Cooked and shredded chicken breasts, seared chicken thighs, crumbled Italian sausage, or crispy bacon make great additions to the filling and can make these more hearty.
They’re delicious on their own but also pair well with left over AE Dairy sour cream dip, warm marinara, ranch, or garlic aioli.
