This is one of my favorite summer apps, I love mixing fresh summer tomatoes like cherry tomatoes or heirloom tomatoes, crunchy green onions, and fresh herbs for color and flavor! I should warn you it’s impossible to have just one bite of this dip – especially paired with a crunchy crostini slice.

Why You’ll Love This One

If you love creamy dips with bold, savory flavor, this one’s for you. It’s loaded with crispy bacon, juicy tomatoes, sharp cheddar, and green onions. All folded into a rich, tangy base of cream cheese, sour cream, and mayo. It comes together fast, can be made ahead, and pairs perfectly with toasted bread, crackers, or fresh veggies. Whether you’re hosting a party or just want a snack that hits all the right notes, this dip delivers every time.

This can also be customized – a fun idea: fold in shredded chicken and serve between two toasted pieces of bread for a chicken melt meets chicken salad sandwich with a fun BLT spin! Or stuff into raw jalapenos, wrap in extra bacon and air fry until warm and bubbly (check out these air fryer jalapeno poppers for inspo!).

Key Dip Ingredients

Overhead view of BLT dip ingredients including mayo, cream cheese, sour cream, tomatoes, bacon, green onions, and shredded cheese

Bacon – Cook until crispy and chop into small pieces for salty, smoky crunch in every bite. I like a thick cut bacon, you can use any flavored bacon.

Sour cream – Adds creamy tang and helps lighten up the base.

Mayonnaise – Gives richness and helps the dip blend together smoothly.

Cream cheese – Softened so it mixes easily. Makes the dip thick, creamy, and scoopable.

Cheddar cheese – I like using freshly shredded sharp cheddar for more flavor and better texture. Cheddar or Pepper jack are best.

Green onions – Sliced thinly for a fresh, oniony pop and a bit of color and texture.

Roma tomatoes – Chopped and lightly drained to keep the dip from getting watery while still adding juicy flavor.

Chips, crackers, or sliced baguette – Something sturdy works best. I love this with toasted bread or crostini.

How to Make The Dip

Let’s talk a little about how to make the Creamy Loaded BLT Dip with Bacon and Cheese (The printable instructions are in the recipe card below.)

Quick overview:

  • Cook and dice bacon.
  • Combine dip base, fold in add-ins.
  • Served chilled or at room temperature.
Four-step process for making BLT dip: combining base, mixing in tomatoes and onions, folding ingredients, and topping with bacon
  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F, layer the bacon slices on a large sheet pan and bake until crispy, 10-12 minutes. Once the bacon is done, remove from the oven, allow to cool, and chop into small pieces.
  • In a large mixing bowl combine sour cream, mayo, cream cheese, salt, pepper, and cheese. Mix until evenly combined. Fold in green onions, chopped bacon, and tomatoes.
  • Transfer to a serving bowl, garnish with more chopped bacon and herbs. Serve with crostini or your favorite chips. Any leftover dip will keep in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days.

Tip: to make perfect crostini

To make perfect crostini, thinly slice a baguette or ciabatta loaf, layers slices on a sheet pan and generously coat each side with olive oil and a light sprinkle of sea salt. Bake at 375 degrees F for 5-6 minutes per side until crispy!

Recipe FAQs

Can I make this BLT dip ahead of time?

Yes! You can make it up to 2 days in advance. Just store it covered in the fridge and wait to top with bacon until right before serving to keep it crisp.

How do I keep the tomatoes from making the dip watery?

After dicing, place your tomatoes on a paper towel or gently squeeze out excess liquid.

What’s the best cheese to use?

Freshly shredded cheddar or a Colby-jack blend works best. Avoid pre-shredded cheese if possible, it contains anti-caking agents and doesn’t mix in as well.

Can I serve this warm?

This dip is best served cold or room temp. If you’re craving a warm version, try baking it briefly (15–20 minutes at 350°F), but it will change the texture slightly with the tomatoes and green onions.

What should I serve it with?

Toasted baguette slices, crostini, crackers, pita chips, or sturdy fresh veggies like bell pepper strips or cucumber rounds all pair great with this dip.

Tools I Recommend

Rubber Spatula – a must have! I like these because they don’t come apart so I don’t have to worry about water getting inside the spatula and causing mold.

Glass Mixing Bowls: these glass nesting bowls are my favorite for prepping ingredients and mixing.

Cheese Grater – this grater is a must if you grate your own cheese! It’s also handy for several other things, like shaving chocolate, shredding vegetables, zesting, or grinding spices.
