Highlights Of The Beef Nachos
- Crowd favorite: kids and adults will love these Dorito nachos! Load a sheet pan up with Doritos and top with ground taco meat and lots of cheese. Pop in the oven and serve family style with plenty of topping choice, queso, salsa, and guacamole. Warning, these are addicting!
- Perfect for game day: these nachos are great for a big group on game day! Whip up your nachos and serve directly off of the baking pan. Serve with small appetizer plates and a buffet of toppings and sauces for your guests to dress up their own nachos.
- Make ahead: you can prep the taco meat and toppings ahead of time so when you’re ready for your nachos all you have to do is assemble the chips, beef, and cheese and toss in the oven to warm. So easy!
- Extra cheesy flavor: using Doritos instead of plain tortilla chips elevates these nachos by adding extra cheesy goodness. Swab out your favorite type of Dorito like cool ranch, taco flavored, salsa verde, or spicy sweet chili Doritos!

We load our nachos with fresh guacamole, a squeeze of fresh lime, plenty of cilantro, shredded lettuce, and pickled jalapenos. But the topping choice are endless!
Ingredient List & Substitutions
This recipe is made with simple ingredients and is easily customized!

- Beef: a pound of ground beef ensures all of the chips are evenly topped with taco meat. Leftover ground beef will also work. To make these with chicken use leftover rotisserie chicken or cubed chicken breasts.
- Seasonings: use store-bought taco seasoning or make your own Salt-Free Taco Seasoning with spices like chili powder, cayenne, garlic powder, and onion powder.
- Doritos: any flavor of Doritos will work for this recipe! I prefer to classic nacho cheese flavor but the cool ranch or taco flavored chips also work great.
- Cheese: use any blend of cheese you would like. Pepper jack and cheddar are a good combo, Monterey jack cheese, Colby Jack cheese, or Mozzarella cheese are other good options. Buy pre-shredded cheese or shred your own!
- Toppings: guacamole, sliced avocado, lettuce, pickled jalapenos, black olives, sour cream, Pico de Gallo, and salsa are some topping ideas.

Tools I Use For This Appetizer Recipe
- USA Pan Half Sheet Pan – my go-to sheet pans, these are truly non-stick and clean up nicely.
- Sauté pan: I love this non-stick sauté pan for several things, it is large enough to sauté all the ground beef in one batch. I also love the high sides to keep messes in the pan and avoid splatters while cooking.
- Cheese Grater – this grater is a must if you grate your own cheese! It’s also handy for several other things, like shaving chocolate, shredding vegetables, zesting, or grinding spices.

Tips for Perfect Nachos
- Shred your own cheese and ditch the coated store-bought stuff.
- Assemble nachos in layers so each chips get a little bit of everything.
- Enjoy right away so the chips are crispy and the cheese bubbly.
Nacho Topping Ideas
- Black beans, refried beans, or pinto beans
- Sliced avocado or fresh guacamole
- Mango salsa or Pico de Gallo
- Your favorite store-bought or homemade salsa
- Thinly shredded lettuce, fresh cilantro, and green onions
- Fresh or pickled jalapenos.

Recipe FAQs
What is the difference between Doritos and nachos?
Doritos are flavored tortilla chips that come in a variety of flavors. Nachos are traditionally made with corn tortilla chips that are topped with meat and cheese, baked, and topped with a variety of fresh toppings.
Can I store my Doritos Naches?
Once baked, these nachos don’t store the best as the toppings get a bit sad and the chips don’t stay as crispy. If you are storing your Doritos, keep ingredients as separate as possible.
